BURGLERS who attempted to open and steal a safe from Sampson's Furniture and Giftware last night have left the store empty handed.
Detective Senior Constable Jack Beanland said alarms at the Learmonth Street store were activated about 7.30pm.
He said a window was smashed and thieves attempted to remove a safe before then deciding to try and open it.
Senior Constable Beanland said both attempts failed and the thieves fled from the store empty handed before police arrived.
A whippersnipper valued $580 was also stolen from a Casino Court shed between 1pm Friday and Tuesday morning.
Senior Constable Beanland requested that anyone who had information about either burglary contact the Portland police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
