New app adds more fun to kids' festival

A NEW smart phone app will help visitors navigate their way through all the activities at next month's Fun4Kids Festival.

The free iPhone app by AppMajik offers an easy-to-use program, itinerary planner and festival map at the touch of a button.

A Fun4Kids mobile website is also available for android phone users.

Returning for its 14th year, this year's festival will be held from July 1 to 8 and will feature 2.5 acres (one hectare) of indoor activities to appeal to children of all ages from headline acts Jessica Mauboy and The X-Factor winner Reece Mastin to sword fighting sessions, bowling, rock climbing and woodwork classes.

The launch of the apps comes as construction of the Fun4Kids Festival village begins today.

Trucks loaded with temporary fencing arrived yesterday ahead of the first structures going up today with Liebig Street closed to traffic from Smith Avenue to Timor Street from 7am. The closure will be in place until 5pm on Wednesday, July 18.

During this period there will also be changed parking conditions on Timor and Liebig streets and the speed zone on Timor Street will be lowered from 50km/h to 40km/h between Banyan and Gilles streets.

The Warrnambool Art Gallery, which is one of the main festival venues, has been closed to the public until Sunday, July 22.

Festival director Luke Cann said disruption to local businesses and residents would be kept to a minimum.

Visiting families are being encouraged to catch V/Line trains to see the festival.

V/Line marketing and stakeholder relations manager Paul Matthews said the festival continued to be one of V/Line's longest-running partnerships.

Mr Cann encouraged visitors to book ahead if travelling. "There is still accommodation available, however this is one of our busiest times of the year in Warrnambool so plan ahead," he said.

Using the V/Line family traveller ticket means a parent can take up to two children from Geelong to Warrnambool for $41.80 or $58.20 if travelling from Melbourne.

A shuttle will meet V/Line trains arriving at the Warrnambool station to take parents and children to selected accommodation and events across the city.

Tickets for all days of the festival are available online on the festival website or through the Lighthouse Theatre.

Business owners with queries about road closures and parking changes can contact the city's site and logistics manager at gscott@warrnambool.vic.gov.au or on 0438 079 823.
