The Swans blew Woorndoo-Mortlake apart with a devastating nine-goal second term on their way to a 22.14 (146) to 4.8 (32) win on Saturday.
Matthew Boyle kicked six goals for Caramut and Karl Dunn chipped in with four, while midfielder hardnut Adam Dickson led the way in one-per-centers.
New Caramut coach Nathan Jones said the Swans prided themselves on their defence.
“I was a little nervous at first because I didn’t know what to expect from Woorndoo but it was a pleasing result,” he said.
“Our pressure early in the game was good and I knew if we kept the pressure on things would open up for us a bit.”
Caramut blooded three new players against the Tigers — Nick Amos, Jarrod Burrow-Buck and William Rasmussen.
It also welcomed back Kurt Robertson, who missed the entire 2012 season with an ankle injury.
Jones said Great Western had a productive pre-season. The 2012 wooden spooners lost a nail-biting round one contest against Glenthompson-Dunkeld by one point.
“They have picked up quite a few. We won’t go in thinking it’s going to be an easy game,” Jones said.
“We’re definitely focused on being disciplined and everyone playing their roles next weekend. We have a good defensive unit at the moment so we will continue with that and fine tune a few set plays.”
Hawkesdale-Macarthur belted Ararat Eagles, 24.16 (160) to 9.7 (61).
Eagles’ trio Adam Greene (five goals), Xavier McCartney (four) and Jeremy Gleeson (four) were damaging.
Penshurst started its premiership defence with a 12.13 (85) to 7.14 (56) win against Lismore-Derrinallum.
Robert Brewster kicked six goals for the Bombers.
SMW Rovers recorded a 39-point win over 2012 grand finalist Tatyoon and Wickliffe-Lake Bolac edged out Moyston-Willaura in a low-scoring contest by eight points.
