The March punctuality rate of 71.6 per cent was a marked drop on the 78.3 per cent in February.
Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber said the Warrnambool line was not the only V/Line service on which there were more late trains last month. He said V/Line’s latest performance results showed the need for a fully funded improvement plan with money allocated in next month’s state budget.
“There’s no sustained improvement in V/Line’s performance,” Mr Barber said.
“On some lines, things are getting worse.
“V/line is a serious commuter service that many depend on.
“And if they can’t rely on it, they’ll give it up and drive instead.
“It’s not just for people visiting the grandkids and the odd country holiday.
“None of the V/Line commuter trains are up to scratch.
“Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Traralgon trains are chock full of commuters, so it’s unacceptable to have so many run late.
“We want to see an action plan, funded in next month’s state budget, that will lead to sustained improvement.”
