More than 200 Telstra customers offline with internet outage

A FIBRE outage in Warrnambool's Telstra exchange has left a number of business and schools without telephones or internet connection this morning.

Telstra area general manager Bill Mundy said a fibre outage in the Telstra exchange affected 227 ADSL customers.

He said a number of large customers, including Deakin University, schools and businesses were also affected.

The fault started at 9am and works to restore to the connection were completed by 10am.

Mr Mundy said work was still being done to restore all customers and Telstra was yet to identify a reason for the fault.

Meanwhile, an Optus spokeswoman said cables in the Telstra exchange were cut at about 7am this morning, leaving mobile customers without voice and data service until about 6pm.

She said repair work started on the cables just after noon, with a progressive restoration taking place over the afternoon.
