PORTLAND police are seeking public assistance after petrol valued at $600 was stolen from the city's golf club.
Detective Sergeant Steve Brown, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said the fuel had been stolen from a mounted tank in a locked compound some time this month.
He said anyone with information about the stolen fuel was requested to contact the Portland police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Hamilton police are investigating a shipping container that was broken into overnight.
Detective Sergeant Mark James, of the Hamilton police crime investigation unit, said the shipping container in Hamilton's Lodge Road was burgled last night or early this morning.
He said a chainsaw had been stolen but it was yet to be determined if other items were missing.
Detectives and crime scene officers are on their way to Lodge Road.
