Education Minister visits South West TAFE

THE Minister for Higher Education and Skills Peter Hall met with South West TAFE leaders today as part of a whirlwind visit to TAFEs around the state.

The visit followed the announcement by Premier Denis Napthine and Mr Hall on Tuesday, that the government would will provide an additional $200 million to TAFEs over four years

Mr Hall told The Standard earlier today the reaction from TAFE's had been pretty positive.

"TAFE institutes now see what their future is and the direction we're heading," he said.

"They are able to get on with the job with a lot more confidence but I also want to say there has been some significant increase in activity in the last 10 or 12 months in the south west.

"Government subsidised enrollments have been up 22 per cent between 2011 and 2012, which is a good positive increase.

"South West TAFE is important to this region."
