A DRUG user of 40 years is hoping he no longer gets caught by Warrnambool police.
Robert Leitch, 58, of Skene Street, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court this week to possessing and using cannabis. He was convicted and fined $1000.
In sentencing, magistrate Jonathan Klestadt asked Leitch if he wanted to go back to jail.
Leitch said “not particularly” and that he was hoping police would leave him alone in future and not charge him again with drug offences.
He told police officers when he was caught on February 3 this year that he had been using cannabis for 40 years and smoked about one gram each day. Police intercepted Leitch while he was driving a Holden sedan east along Raglan Parade and when officers approached the car they smelt cannabis.
Drugs were found in the driver’s door.
Leitch received his first court conviction for drug use in 1976 and he has also been charged with drug trafficking in the past.
