Biographer to speak in Portland

AWARD-WINNING biographer Robin De Crespigny will be in Portland this month to speak on her debut book The People Smuggler.

De Crespigny’s work is the story of Ali Al Jenabi, often referred to as “the Oskar Schindler of Asia”  for his controversial role in assisting asylum seekers.

Glenelg Shire mayor Karen Stephens said the March 21 author talk in Portland library’s meeting room from 11am offered a special opportunity to hear the story behind the book.

“Ms De Crispigny has spent three years working with Ali Al Jenabi to write his story, which begins under Saddam Hussein’s regime and details his family’s horrendous persecution and torture, before he joins with the resistance,” Cr Stephens said.

Bookings must be made on 5522 2265 or email library@glenelg.vic.gov.au
