REIGNING Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Club Open men’s winner Daniel Byrnes will attempt to defend his crown today.
Byrnes will play Kooyong club mate Mitchell Burman in the men’s open final this morning.
Byrnes, the men’s third seed, eliminated Melbourne-based second seed Ryan Thomas 6-3, 6-2 in their semi-final yesterday. Burman surprised number one seed Ryan Agar, ranked 35th in Australia, in their semi-final battle.
The game went to three sets, with Burman, the number four seed, winning 6-4, 1-6, 7-6.
Thirty-two men contested the open section.
Number one seed Georgia O’Sullivan will meet number three seed Ramona Mataruga in the women’s open final.
O’Sullivan, of Royal South Yarra, defeated Melbourne number four seed Karen Filippou 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in their semi-final.
Mataruga, of Geelong, disposed of Royal South Yarra’s Bianca Horsley, the number two seed, in their semi-final, 6-1, 6-1.
The women’s open section has attracted 12 players.
The three-day open, which attracted 742 players, finishes with finals across all grades today.
