Calling all girls with the passion to play football for Hampden region

HAMPDEN region is searching for players to boost its second tilt at the V/Line Cup youth girls’ competition.

Four teams, Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat and Hampden, will vie for the title in Melbourne in April.

Hampden youth girls’ region manager Peter Allan encouraged interested players to attend the team’s first training session on Wednesday night at Reid Oval.

Training will start at 5pm.

Allan said Hampden had surpassed its expectations in its V/Line Cup debut last year, winning one of its two games.

Hampden kicked eight goals to one after half-time in its 49-point win against Bendigo.

“We went last year for the first time and the girls performed beyond our expectations,” Allan said.

Allan said while many of the girls had high skill levels, any interested players were encouraged to attend training.

“The hardest thing was to get the game sense,” he said.

“The girls who had played junior footy knew where to be.”
