SOUTH-West footballers Jackson Merrett and Martin Gleeson will have another opportunity to impress Essendon selectors ahead of the AFL season proper in a pre-season cup match against Greater Western Sydney tonight.
Merrett, 20, and Gleeson, 18, were named in the Bombers’ squad of 27 to take on the Giants at Canberra’s Manuka Oval. The match is Essendon’s final NAB Cup hit-out before it opens the home-and-away season against Adelaide on March 22.
Merrett, of Cobden, has played each round of the pre-season competition, while Koroit export Gleeson returns to the Bombers’ line-up after making his NAB Cup debut against Collingwood in the triangular format in round one.
