CUDGEE Cats are celebrating a narrow indoor bowls grand final win.
The Cats defeated Wannon Park Dogs 22-21 in Warrnambool’s summer pennant division one decider on Monday night at Warrnambool Stadium.
Cudgee teammates Laurie McLaren, Barbara Draffen, Rob McCrabb and Trevor Bolden led all game.
The margin was just one shot on the last end.
Wannon Park Dogs, with Maureen Drennan, Lyn Fish, Dorothy Gleeson and Alan Bell combining, held six shots to tie, which would have required an extra end.
McLaren reduced the number of shots to five with his last bowl to secure the win.
In division two, Wannon Park Hounds were too strong for Senior Hawks, 23-15.
Hounds skipper Rex Harris took control mid-game and steered his team of Alan Hassell, Bill Scutcheon and Brian Furnell home.
The win was Harris’ first as a skipper in a grand final.
Joan Hunter, Mac Dyson, Nancy Jenkins and Shirley Cooke represented Senior Hawks.
Midfield Maniacs won the early-finish division.
In a low-scoring game, Midfield Maniacs downed Pete’s Pals, 15-7.
Midfield Maniacs, skippered by Barry Crimmin, jumped their opposition on the first end to set up a six-shot win.
The blistering start forced Pete’s Pals to play catch up for the next 13 ends.
Leader Roy Gerke was sick and still took his position in the winning team alongside Crimmin, Jacinta Marney and Vince Lenehan.
Peter Neal, Aaron Hiensch, Mel Gurry and Sam Haddow represented Pete’s Pals.
Warrnambool indoor bowls winter pennant starts on April 15.
