Jones Oval in the cricket semi action

THE first Warrnambool and District Cricket Association division one semi-final to be played at Jones Oval will be between Woodford and Dennington.

The WDCA match committee allocated semi-final grounds for this weekend’s matches at a meeting on Monday night.

Minor premier West Warrnambool and Merrivale will play their semi-final at Reid Oval.

Woodford coach John Houston said he was unsure what to expect from Jones Oval.

“I haven’t played there for a long time. I don’t know much about the ground at all,” Houston told The Standard yesterday.

“We have to put our faith in the people who made the decision that it is one of the better grounds to play on.

“It is a good thing for East Warrnambool to have it there.”

Houston, an experienced post-season campaigner, said little separated division one’s finalists, with the final make-up of the top four undecided until the final round.

He said it added interest to the finals series.

“I reckon it’s as open as it has been for ages,” Houston said.

“It is going to come down to those who perform and those who do their bit for the team.”

In division two, Merrivale and Russells Creek will meet at Koroit, while West Warrnambool and Woodford will battle at Jetty Flat.

The division two semi-finals are on Saturday and Sunday.

Division three will be played on Saturday, with Merrivale and Koroit to meet at Mack Oval and the contest between Woodford and Russells Creek 2 is pencilled in at Brierly Oval.
