Gallery: Grand prize the target at Laang

WONTHAGGI entrant Jarryd Passarin surprised his rivals to win the FITASC Australian Grand Prix open title at Laang on Sunday.

Warrnambool Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia president Steve Chilton said Passarin “snuck under the radar”.

Passarin hit 189 out of 200 targets at the two-day event.

Geelong’s Craig MacPherson was second with 186, while New Zealand’s Brian Deadman (185) won a shoot-off for third with Bacchus Marsh’s Matt Libbis.

Melbourne entrant Renae Birgin won the women’s section with 171 out of 200.

Echuca’s Kelly Norris (166) was second, with Nyrie Turner (154) third.

Byaduk’s Ron Rhook claimed the veterans’ honours, hitting 178 targets. Colin MacPherson, of Geelong, was a close second with 177 and Tarneit’s Kelvin Tardrew (170) third.

Greensborough’s Colin Barker was the super veterans’ winner from Shepparton’s John Argilla.

Bacchus Marsh talent Jack Gibbs won the junior section with 183.

Jeremy Paglia (181) was second and Jacob Mackenzie (167) third.

Chilton said the grand prix was well supported.

“It was a really good weekend. Everyone was happy and the weather was good,” he said.
