Boost for Port Campbell town centre

PORT Campbell is in line for more car parks and commercial space after Corangamite Shire Council voted to push on with plans for the coastal town.

The green light was given at Tuesday night’s council meeting and means 39 new car parks and three new commercial or residential lots facing Morris Street are closer to fruition.

South West ward councillor Neil Trotter said he supported the work council had done and Port Campbell was in need of more parking in the commercial area.

“This provides a good opportunity to do that,” he said.

Amendment C31 proposes to rezone land at the Port Campbell hostel and the front of 29-31 Morris Street to mixed use zone.

Councillors voted to request the planning minister appoint an independent panel to review submissions to the amendment, hold a public hearing and make recommendations on the amendment back to council.

The council also granted approval for a 20-metre NBN tower on Mt Noorat.

There are two Telstra and Vertel telecommunications towers about 20 metres from the site.
