HIGH rental has been blamed for another business exit from Warrnambool’s CBD, which is already dotted with vacant premises.
Multicomm, which has operated from Koroit Street for 19 months, will vacate the prime site next month to centralise at its Fairy Street outlet.
“Until landlords come to the party, there will continue to be more of this in central Warrnambool,” Multicomm co-owner Jed Mast said. “They are still charging metropolitan rents in a regional area.
“I also have a shop in Hamilton where rents are considerably cheaper than Warrnambool — it’s chalk and cheese.
“Our decision is reflective of the tight economic times.
“Business operators are just working for their landlords first and foremost.
“We’ve decided to rationalise and have all our Warrnambool operations under one roof from March 12.”
There are at least 10 vacant retail premises in the main central business district.
