MACARTHUR police officer David Rook was not kidding around yesterday when he chased two goats down Koroit’s main street and took them into custody.
Senior Constable Rook was driving down Commercial Road about 9am when he and what seemed to be half the people in town spotted the two goats high-tailing it down the main street, causing a major disruption to traffic.
“I couldn’t believe it, but there were so many people trying to flag me down that I knew something was up,” he said.
“A childcare worker and myself eventually managed to corner the goats and tie them up until a Moyne Shire ranger arrived and took the goats into his care. The goats belong to someone west of Koroit and the owner has been found and the goats returned.”
Senior Constable Rook said the large black-and-grey goats were keen to make their escape.
“They were having a fair crack,” he said. “That’s the beauty of country policing — you never know what’s going to happen next.”
