The team of Marie Astell, Gail Gill, Gabby Gill and Jeanette Lambell took top honours in Terang Golf Club’s Rose Bowl yesterday.

They finished their round with 84 points.

The Camperdown team defeated the Terang-Warrnambool combination of Val Moloney, Norma Attrill, Judy Kerr and Elaine Wright, which signed for 83 points.

Terang Golf Club women’s captain Janet Saunders said 104 golfers from as far away as Port Fairy and the Grampians made up the field.

“That’s a good field. We had about the same last year but if you can get 100 players to anything you’ve done well,” she said.

Other winners on the day were Port Fairy’s Peg Nitschke, Helen Dwyer, Kay Patterson and Rosalie Bunge, whose 44 points won them the best nine out award.

Peterborough’s Deb Calvert, Faye Meade, Kay Matherson and Andrea Wilcox had the best nine in with 45 points.

Meanwhile, Melbourne-based golfer Chris Dunn takes a 13-shot lead into today’s third round of the Port Fairy club championships.

Dunn, who carded a five-under 67 in the first round, posted a three-over 75 last Saturday.

He starts today well clear of Troy Richardson, with the final round held tomorrow.

Richardson is one shot ahead of talented Ararat junior golfer Taine Pearse.

Dunn is aiming for his second championship in three years, having won at his first attempt in 2011.

In other grades, Leigh Fary has a one-shot lead over Rod Maher in B grade, while long-time volleyballer Tony Hoy has a four-shot buffer from Mark Conlan.
