FOR more than two-thirds of her life Sister Borromeo Mahony dedicated her energies to caring for the sick and needy.
Thirty-five of her 71 years as a nun were based in Warrnambool at the St John of God Hospital.
At her funeral Mass last week she was remembered as a woman of small physical stature with a big heart. The 95-year-old died on Australia Day in Subiaco, Western Australia.
She was born and raised in the Allansford district before joining the St John of God order.
Warrnambool parish priest Father John Fitzgerald, who lead the memorial Mass, said she left lasting memories in the south-west.
“She radiated the presence of God and people would feel better after her visit to hospital beds and nursing homes,” he said. “She delighted in meeting people and families. Sister Borrie was highly thought of.”
A eucharist celebration service attended by about 350 people was also held in Warrnambool.
