MORE than 200 competitors are set to converge on Hawkesdale for the campdraft this weekend.
The fourth annual campdraft at the Nardoo Road Arena will feature riders aged from eight to 80.
Hawkesdale Campdraft Club secretary Elise Dell said competitors from all over Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia will compete.
“Campdrafting is a uniquely Australian horse sport and campdrafters range from amateur to professional stockmen, with the whole family testing their riding and horse skills against each other and the cattle,” Ms Dell said.
“Over Saturday and Sunday there will be over 800 runs. More than 1000 cattle have been generously supplied by local farmers.”
Mrs Dell said the campdraft wouldn’t be possible without the tireless work of local community groups who cater for the participants.
Entry to the public is free both tomorrow and Sunday.
Tomorrow night there will be a catered meal, with the band The Gents to provide musical entertainment.
