Finals glory on the line

TEENAGE cricketers will take centre stage when Warrnambool and District Cricket Association junior finals get under way.

The under 13, 15 and 17 semi-finals will start this week with the young hopefuls chasing memorable success.

The under 13s semi-finals are on the next two Friday nights. Outlying clubs Nirranda and Koroit face off at Nirranda and Dennington and Brierly-Christ Church go head-to-head at Dennington.

The  under 15s semi-finals will be played on separate days. Woodford and Nestles will play at Brierly on the next two Wednesday nights.

The other contest is an intra-club affair — Russells Creek Blue and Russells Creek will complete their match at Jetty Flat this Sunday.

In the under 17s, minor premier Russells Creek takes on Dennington at Brierly on the next two Saturday mornings.

West Warrnambool and Wesley-CBC clash in the other contest at Mack Oval on the same days.

The most late-season drama was in the 17s, with outright wins to Russells Creek and West Warrnambool lifting them up the standings. Creek jumped from second to first while West rose from fourth to second.

Wesley-CBC, which started the round on top, lost to Merrivale and dropped to third. Dennington couldn’t get past Woodford and fell from third to fourth.
