A VAST majority would like to see Wunta return to the old Liebig Street format, according to a Standard survey.
After about seven hours and 140 responses, 85 per cent of people who took part in The Standard’s online poll were in favour of a return to blocking off the stretch of Liebig Street between Timor and Koroit streets.
About 10 per cent said the Friday night event should remain at the Civic Green and almost five per cent said they had no preference between the two options. Wunta committee vice-chairperson Donna Gladman said the committee would “give it our all to try to return to Liebig Street next year”, but added there were no guarantees.
Her comments backed the sentiments of chairwoman Catherine Williams, who told The Standard last week that a return to the Liebig Street format would be discussed in the wake of this year’s event.
“Going down that road again is not completely off the cards,” she said.
Reasons for moving away from blocking off Liebig Street included safety concerns, opposition from some traders and increased costs associated with security and fencing.
