Gallery: Music, and all that jazz at Wunta in the gardens

DRIZZLY rain yesterday failed to dampen the party atmosphere at Lake Pertobe as the Wunta Fiesta drew to a close.

Organisers hailed this year’s festival a success, despite varied public opinion of the event’s showpiece Friday night concert, headlined by Aria Award nominated band Evermore.

Cold winds and the threat of rain appeared to keep people away from the Civic Green, but vice-chairwoman Donna Gladman said the event was still successful.

“We were very grateful to all those people who came out and braved the cold conditions, it was great to see,” she said.

“Overall, I would say we have had a very successful weekend.

“We have had fantastic support from the community and our sponsors.”

Ms Gladman said Saturday’s Jazz in The Gardens benefited from clear conditions, with plenty of people turning out to enjoy a relaxing afternoon.

“The crowd at Jazz in The Gardens was fantastic, it was well-supported,” she said.

“It was a great afternoon, and the highlight of the weekend for me.”

About 300 people made their way to Lake Pertobe for yesterday’s afternoon at the lake, featuring nearly seven hours of live music.

“It was fantastic to see so many people down here today, especially young families, enjoying a cruisy afternoon with some great live music,” Ms Gladman said.

“Most of the bands are local, with a few out-of-towners, which is really an aim of the committee.

“Wunta is a local event, so we want to support our local musicians.”

Ms Gladman said other Wunta events held over the weekend included a show and shine, junior and senior foreshore triathlons and skate competition.
