Allansford blocks for sale, again

ANOTHER attempt has been launched by Warrnambool City and Moyne Shire councils to sell two paddocks associated with the failed Allansford industrial park.

The 24-hectare and 21ha allotments on Carrolls Road were advertised on Saturday, calling for written submissions by March 1.

It follows an attempt about three years ago and another early last year with a call for tenders. Plans for a major industrial centre were scuttled after an expert report showed the  geology unsuitable.

The first sale process was abandoned after the city insisted there needed to be more than one offer to produce a fair and reasonable result.

In the following months  tensions rose between both councils and two city councillors were involved in taping and leaking details of  a confidential council meeting over the issue, claiming there had been improper process.

A subsequent special inquiry cleared the city of any alleged impropriety. Last year’s tender process closed in July but offers failed to meet the reserve.
