The Darren Weir-trained stayer will gallop on the track in between races as he prepares for a big autumn campaign ahead of next spring.
He will gallop on the track about 3pm, adding to the build-up of the Terang Cup at 3.58pm.
Puissance De Lune shot to favouritism for the Melbourne Cup after winning the listed Bendigo Cup by eight lengths before an effortless five-length win in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes on the final day of last year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington.
The performance prompted jockey Glen Boss to shower praise on the stayer.
“I have just ridden next year’s Melbourne Cup winner,” Boss said after the race.
Terang and District Racing Club manager Karen Van Kempen said she had worked with Weir’s Warrnambool-based foreman Mitch Freedman to arrange tomorrow’s track gallop.
The five-year-old had his final gallop on Terang’s soft, lush course before winning the Bendigo Cup. Club president Des McKinnon said a good crowd was expected, with the cup and two $25,000 races on the card. Significant prizes for fashions on the field entrants was expected to generate significant competition among racegoers.
“The quality of the (cup) field will be very good,” McKinnon said. “Terang has been a great racing centre for in excess of 150 years. We’re very keen to maintain it as a really important part of the racing industry.
“It’s picturesque, it’s got heaps of shade. The grandstand is the feature piece, and the ground beneath the grandstand.”
The first race kicks off at 1.20pm.
