Gallery: Wunta festivities up and running with Undy 500

A MIX of zany costumes and skimpy briefs combined on the Civic Green this morning as the Wunta Fiesta got underway with the Undy 500.

Wintery winds failed to keep away an estimated 400 strong crowd as the annual fiesta kicked off with the anticipated race, following the annual Big Aussie Breakfast.

More than 30 people lined up for the Undy 500, in various states of dress. First male and first female honours went to Warrnambool brother and sister duo Ben and Kellie McLeod.

Warrnambool nightspot The Loft had a large contingent entered, all sporting a letter on their backsides to spell out "Support Live Music at The Loft".

Councillors Peter Sycopoulis and Peter Hulin, who caused controversy at a council meeting late last year by saying the Undy 500 was a tasteless event, also participated, albeit in disguise.

Organisers were expecting to dish up 550 meals of eggs bacon and pancakes, before proceedings wrapped up at 9am.

Wunta will continue tonight with Live on The Civic Green, headlined by ARIA award nominated band Evermore.
