The newly developed 2013 Barwon South Western League Skate, BMX and Scoot Series will make its debut as a new event under the Wunta Fiesta umbrella.
Heat one of the series opens at Warrnambool Skate Park at 10am with a blade and chair skating demonstration by Warrnambool boys Harvey McCorkell, Paddy Giblin and Craig Richards.
More than 100 participants are expected to take part on the day, which will be followed by another six rounds throughout the south-west in the following two months, including Colac and Port Fairy.
FReeZa co-ordinator Hannah Cranage said Warrnambool’s young talent would have a chance to be noticed and work towards gaining sponsorship in their sport.
“It’s the first series of its kind in the region and we recognise it as a prospective long-term event that we could grow and build to hopefully link in with Melbourne in the future,” she said.
“The great thing is a lot of our kids travel to all those events anyway, so to bring an event into their home environment has created a real buzz around Warrnambool.”
