Warrnambool quilters have charity covered

ORGANISERS have stitched together the final designs for this year’s massive Southern Right Quilt Show.

Quilts will be wall-to-wall at Emmanuel College from today until Sunday as a part of a crafty fund-raiser for Peter’s Project.

More than 350 entrants have lined up to show off the best sewing skills of the south-west.

It’s the second time Warrnambool’s quilters have banded together to support the cause after raising thousands of dollars at their 2011 show.

“The first show raised just under $20,000, which is quite extraordinary,” Warrnambool Rotary Club organiser Daffydd Wiesner-Ellix said.

“It looks like we’ve got 350 entrants this year and there’s more coming in.

“I think it really says something about the interest in craft work.”

He said organisers hoped to raise $25,000 this year in the fight for an integrated cancer care centre in the south-west.

Materials and accessories will be on sale while raffle fund-raisers will also run throughout the show.

Doors open at the Emmanuel College hall on Ardlie Street from 10am to 4pm today, Saturday and Sunday. Entry is $5.
