South West regenerates colts side

SOUTH West Cricket will send one of its youngest under 17 sides to contest division one at Warrnambool Colts Country Week.

Just two players from the squad which finished runner-up last year don the whites for the January tournament.

Coach Matt Boyle will oversee a largely bottom-age group seeking to go one better than its heartbreaking defeat 12 months ago.

But he conceded the memory of that match was unlikely to motivate  the new-look group.

“We didn’t lose all week. We beat Warrnambool earlier in the week and halfway through the last innings we looked like we would romp it home,” he said. “And they pulled this comeback out of nowhere.

“But they were all top-age last year and on my list this year I have two kids that are top-age.

The 17s division one team was one of four SWC squads released yesterday.

The association will also contest division two in Warrnambool and under 15 Horsham Country Week  from January 7 to 11. It will also compete at Portland Country Week, from January 21 to 23.
