Warrnambool’s Jamie Veal and South Australia’s Trevor Green shared the spoils in the two 20-lap feature finals, but it was the consistent Dillon who finished round six of the Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria (SRA) on top after finishing fifth and fourth in the two feature finals. 

Dillon said he used the SRA round to fine-tune ahead of the World Series Sprintcars (WSS) round and Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at the Allansford track in January.

“I really enjoy coming to Warrnambool. I am really looking forward to it and I’m as prepared as ever,” he said. “The Classic is such a hard race. If you make the final, it is a success.”

Green, the 1997 Grand Annual champion, won the first 20-lap feature final ahead of South Australia’s Daniel Pestka and American Tim Kaeding.

Green came from 12th in his heat to finish second.

Veal took the honours in the second feature final, ahead of fellow Victorian Matthew Reed and Terang’s Jack Lee. He was second in the overall points battle, with Warrnambool’s Darren Mollenoyux third.

Mollenoyux finished eighth in feature one and fifth in feature two.

Premier Speedway general manager David Mills said it was a competitive night.

“It was a very successful night. The club takes a punt scheduling a race meeting close to Christmas, but it was greatly supported,” Mills said. “The standard of racing was first-class.

“The track conditions were testing for all because of the heat in the afternoon.”

Mills said the round marked a busy period for Premier Speedway, which hosts a WSS round on January 1 as part of speedweek and the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic on January 26.
