Police, CFA, SES and paramedics were called to the accident involving a truck and a car at 7pm.
Leading senior constable Bruce McNaughton, from Lismore police, said the Lismore truck driver, a man aged in his 30s, was travelling behind a car when the crash occurred.
It's believed the female driver of the car attempted to do a u-turn when it collided with the truck.
Police are still investigating the accident but say the action taken by the truck driver appeared to have lessoned the impact.
The female driver is expected to be issued with an infringement notice.
A spokes woman for Ambulance Victoria said the truck driver was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The woman and her female passenger were treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Colac Hospital.
