The Tim Gainey-coached combination was successful in one of its three preliminary matches at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
Gainey said Brauer College almost snared a semi-final spot.
“We missed out by two points to go into the semis,” he said.
Brauer College downed Crusoe College in two sets, lost to Monbulk in three sets and lost to Maribyrnong College in two sets.
Gainey said Maribyrnong was a well-drilled side.
“They were really good. They didn’t lose a game at all,” he said.
“We lost to them in two sets, 20-13, 20-15.”
Gainey said he was proud of his inexperienced team for making it to Victoria’s final eight.
“All the teams we played against were sports schools so that’s all they do. We had trained a total of eight times,” he said.
“I thought they all played pretty good. They are mostly all footy guys and basketball guys.
“Ryan Bunney is the only one who plays, so to make it this far is not too bad.”
Emmanuel College girls’ coach Bruce Keeley, who is affiliated with Warrnambool Volleyball Association, was full of praise for his side despite it losing its three games.
Emmanuel failed to win a set, going down to Crusoe College, Monbulk College and Maribyrnong College, all 2-0.
“We lost all three games but were competitive in all,” Keeley said.
“We were a few points away in all sets. It was a pretty good result really.”
Keeley said Emmanuel College, which included four newcomers to the sport, competed well against more established volleyball sides.
