In the swim

THE Warrnambool Swimming Club has dived into the summer season ? or long course season ? with a big meet planned for tomorrow.

Coach Jayson Lamb said 18 members had competed in club events in Melbourne on the past couple of weekends and a group of 12 will make a trip to Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre for the MLC Aquatic Long Course meet tomorrow.

"We're just getting back into the swing of things," said Lamb, who explained members of the club would use the next month or so to qualify for the state championships in January and the national age championships in April.

"The aim of the first few long course meets is to try and chase the short course times because in a shorter pool, times should be faster."

Looking ahead, the club will have three swimmers ? Holly Burton, Tarsha Umbers and Joel Medley ?? attend the Victorian open water championships in Hazelwood on October 17 and 18.

SUMMER is still two months away but for

the season has already arrived.

Swimmers have started the long course season, also known as the summer season.

A month has separated the shortcourse and longcourse seasons.

"We had a week off then got back into it," Lamb said. "A few should perform pretty reasonable (tomorrow).

While Holly Burton will contest the 10-kilometre swim, Tarsha Umbers and Joel Medley will swim five kilometres in a bid to qualify for the national open water championships in February.

Warrnambool will host a long course meet on November 15.
