AS visiting teams at the 2010 Victorian Country Swimming Championships huddle back at their caravans and hotels, Warrnambool Swimming Club competitors will tuck themselves into their own beds.
While it is bound to be more comfortable, Warrnambool head coach Jayson Lamb was wary.
"Obviously swimming is an individual sport but this is when it becomes a team sport as well," he said.
"It will be a bit different not staying together, so we'll be having more team meetings over the weekend to keep our team spirit up.
"It will certainly be an advantage to swim in our own pool, though."
Western District Amateur Swimming Association (WDASA) is hosting the three-day titles, which start Saturday.
AquaZone will welcome more than 600 swimmers from 38 clubs.
Colac will have 15 WDASA swimmers competing while Timboon has one competitor and B2R Aquatic has four.
Warrnambool will have 48 swimmers, one of the largest teams the club has ever assembled.
"Three years ago we finished sixth, the next year we finished fifth and last year we finished fourth," Lamb said.
"Who knows what will happen this year but we hope to keep climbing up the ladder."
Lamb highlighted Isaac Jones, Matthew Logan, Jordan Logan, Will Shepherd, Dylan Lee, Daniel Unwin, Tanika Cameron, Brittney Berger and Kirra Umbers as medal prospects for Warrnambool.
"In the older section we've got Michael and Jack Paulka, Chelsea Maddock, Georgia Johnson and Paige McLaren," he said.
"They've had a bit of a hiatus and are returning to the club."
The Alan Monaghan Shield will be taken out by the club with the highest combined aggregate points score for all events.
WDASA president Trevor Wheaton said the last time the association hosted the titles was in 1999.
"I think the event's got bigger and a bit more professional since then," he said. "The standard will be high. It always is.
"This is the most prestigious event for country swimmers."
Heats start at 9am each day. Finals start at 4.30pm Saturday and Sunday and 2.30pm Monday.
