CLAY target shooting is more than firing at objects whizzing through the air, supposedly representing pigeons or rabbits.Field and Game Association of Australia secretary Glen Rider yesterday revealed the magic of the sport. He said locations were carefully chosen to create optical illusions for shooters.Rider said the Laang range ranked high among the world's best and said the rolling landscape was a challenge for shooters."There needs to be contours to catch the guys out. They think they are shooting straight when it's actually an optical illusion," he said. Shooters will fire at targets launched from the air and across the ground at the championships, the bush setting providing natural obstacles. The Warrnambool branch of the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia secured the championships ?? the third time it's been held in Australia ? after it hosted the 2006 national carnival. The world titles are divided into five categories, attracting 48 women, 54 juniors, 399 men, 114 veterans and 50 super veterans (over 65 years old).
