WARRNAMBOOL Plovers won't have to venture outside on this wintry weekend, with the side forced to forfeit today's match.
The Plovers were scheduled to meet their round-one opponent Maroondah again but lack of numbers left the team with no option but to abandon the game.
Captain Will Green is likely to miss the rest of the season due to a broken jaw sustained in last weekend's match while Reihana Heremaia has a suspected broken finger.
"Then we've got a few other ankles and what have you which will keep some people out for a week," Plovers player Paul Malone said.
"We've also got two of our young backs overseas who will be back next week and a lot of farmers have work commitments because it's a busy time of the year.
"We just didn't have the numbers to make the long trip down to Maroondah worthwhile."
It is the club's first forfeit of 2009.
"We're pretty disappointed and we were hoping to go through this year without doing it," Malone said.
"A couple of Melbourne sides have already (forfeited) this year so we wanted to set a standard but unfortunately we couldn't.
"Numbers at training both nights were pretty ordinary.
"We could've pushed the issue and kept seeing if players would be available later in the afternoon but it just wasn't worth it."
The Plovers told Victorian Rugby Union (VRU) of its intention yesterday morning, with the VRU then notifying fourth-ranked Maroondah.
Maroondah defeated the Plovers 62-12 in the opening round.
Malone was confident the winless Warrnambool would field a side against second-placed Endeavour Hills A in round-11 action at Melton next Saturday.
