WHILE Ski Racing Victoria may be praying for better weather mid next month, racing would have proceeded yesterday in horrendous conditions.
SRV board member Dave Bishop made the trek from Melbourne to check out the Camperdown lake on Sunday and said racing would have been held.
``The next round of the Victorian series will be held here on October 17 and 18 and, although we will be praying to the weather gods, we would have raced here today,'' he said.
``The venue is exactly what we need. The only unusual problem is the depth when we want to put down turning buoys but that's a fairly minor obstacle and we'll get around that pretty easily.''
Bishop said the beauty of the venue was that there was more than enough of the key ingredient _ water.
``It's blowing a gale today but we would be able to race even in these horrific conditions,'' he said.
``We're hoping for a half decent day. We don't charge admission and just want to invite people to come out and have a look.
``The start will be near the shore so people can come out and have a squiz. It will be a great spectacle.''
Bishop said yesterday's reconnaissance mission was to make sure that all the boxes had been ticked for next month's racing.
``We just wanted to make sure we knew where we would be putting marquees and thinking about how and where we would be running the course,'' he said.
Bishop said the event was expected to attract 60 boats, 150 competitors and a large gathering of about 500 people.
He said there were 18 races planned with up to 20 competitors racing together around the five-kilometre triangular course.
