Six in state squad

SIX Warrnambool and District league footballers have been selected in the initial VCFL District State Team to play the VAFA on the Queen's Birthday Weekend next month at Barooga.Kolora-Noorat's Sean Bourke and Ben Fraser have been selected along with Justin Nowell (Dennington), Sam Smith (Nirranda), Darren Stenhouse (Allansford) and Brad Wiggins (Timboon Demons). No players from the Mininera and District or South West leagues made the initial 56-member squad.However, there were seven players from the Colac and District league named in the squad.They are Clay Brewer (South Colac), Adam Courtney (Simpson), Brock Shiels (Lorne), Cameron Tate (Apollo Bay), Casey Tutungi (Lorne), Damien Walker (Western Eagles) and Richard White (Lorne). The Victorian team, made up of players from VCFL district leagues across the state, comprises a mix of experienced players and young players representing their state for the first time. VCFL state team coach Ron Thomas was happy with the assembled squad."The selectors have been attending games across the state over recent weeks and believe the initial squad provides a good mix of experience and youth," Thomas said."We will hold training sessions in the next few weeks after which the squad will be reduced to the final team for the game against the VAFA."VCFL chief executive officer Glenn Scott said representative football was alive and well in the VCFL. The game will be played at the Barooga Recreation Reserve on Sunday, June 7.
