IT was a pleasant spring weekend for EKB fitness and aerobics team Ultimate 7 in more ways than one.
The group competed in the School Aerobics Spring Challenge in Melbourne.
When its name was read out as the winner of the primary hip -hop section, there was plenty of springing.
"When they heard who was third and second up on stage, they thought they had missed out," coach Emma Bellman said.
"Then they heard their name. They were just stoked.
"They were jumping up and down and there were smiles everywhere."
Members of the winning act were Tayla Johnson, Sophie Drake, Ally Smith, Courtney Donegan, Jessica Brunt, Sarah Hill and Crystal Op De Coul.
"They went to nationals as well and placed eighth, which was really, really good," Bellman said.
"For state level, this is their best result."
The girls performed the same routine they took to other competitions throughout the year.
"They get down low, there's lots of sharp arm movements as well as quick feet," Bellman said.
"These kids are all in their first year of EKB fitness and aerobics. They did really well."
The coach was pleased with all her students who attended the meet.
"Even before all the results were read out, everyone was really happy with how they performed," she said.
"It was a good way to end our last Melbourne competition for the year."
Other podium finishes from EKB included Can't Touch This (third, primary open section), Jordan Rooke (third, primary male solo section), Vivacious (second, secondary open A section), 3 Amigosss (third, secondary junior section), Deaglan Irvine (second, secondary males singles), Touch Down (second, secondary hip-hop junior) and Malicious (second, secondary hip-hop senior).
Warrnambool East Primary School's Toon Squad earned a second in the primary all boys section while Brauer College's stand-out results were Forever 3 (second, secondary advanced), Sophie Payne (second, secondary senior solo) along with its secondary open A team, which finished third.
Nullawarre Primary School also competed, with its best result from Hit It, which finished fifth in the primary hip-hop section.
Events still on the EKB calendar for 2009 include the Glenelg Games competition on November 12 and the group's Christmas concert on December 11.
"It's a hip-hop routine," Bellman said.
