WARRNAMBOOL rider Darren Harris has a target on his back as the Warrnambool Mountain Bike Club’s inaugural Thunder Point series near its climax.
With just two weekly races left, Harris is leading the veterans’ category but his rivals know they have to beat a time of 23 minutes and three seconds either this Friday night or the next week. Times won’t be published so competitors will have to guess as to whether they have done enough to emerge victorious.
The dirt races have attracted 62 riders in seven categories with former North Warrnambool footballer Ricky Smedts continuing to set the pace in the open category while Harrison Ernst (26.44) leads the under 17 boys, Mitch Hose (34.43) the under 13 boys, Chris Halouvas (30.27) the masters category, Ethan Rhyne the under 12 boys (40.57) and Chloe Mutsaers (37.51) in the under 13 girls.
Racing continues Friday night from 4.30pm and the club will seek feedback about a second series which could include endurance and novelty races.
