TABLE TENNIS champion Simon Johnson will lead Warrnambool's campaign at a regional interleague tournament in Mount Gambier this weekend.
The Warrnambool Table Tennis Association' No. 1 seed will captain the men's side at the two day event.
Johnson has been the club champion on 14 occasions.
Seven other association players will also travel across the border to face Hamilton, Horsham and the host club.
The WTTA men's team has won 20 of the 21 past annual competitions.
Association spokesman Mark Taylor said the men's trio would have to overcome Hamilton to retain their title.
"Hamilton took the shield off us two years ago," he said.
"They are a very even team but we beat them last year.
"It should be a very close encounter but hopefully we can defend our shield."
Johnson will be joined by senior debutant Ben Taylor and Trevor McDowell.
Fifteen-year-old Ben has represented WTTA four times as a junior at the event.
"He's a local up-and-coming player," Taylor said.
"He has a very good top-spin forehand and puts a lot of work into games."
Taylor said it was one of the smallest teams Warrnambool had sent to the interleague tournament.
"It's disappointing not to have a full team but we're a bit short of women and girls," he said.
"The players who are going will be excited to be staying overnight in Mount Gambier."
Matt Van Rooy, Hamish Porter and Kieran McDowell make up the boy's side, while Rebecca Cain and Leanne McDowell will play in the women's division.
