SOUTH Warrnambool netballer Sophie Pattison isn't dwelling on her side's dismal performance in the Western Regional State League.
The forward-thinking 16-year-old realises the competition is only a warm-up before her under 17 side contests the Hampden league season.
"We've only come together this year," she said.
"We have some new players who've come up from the under 15s.
"So this is just pre-season training for us before the start of the season."
The Roosters won their first match of the competition against Warrnambool and District league but have stumbled in the subsequent four rounds.
Sophie said her team lacked in volume and spirit.
"We don't talk enough and don't encourage each other enough," she said.
"Our leads are really weak as well. We just have to work together and be more attacking."
The red-and-white outfit also has a new face at the helm. Sophie said coach Gill Herrmann was trialling different combinations in preparation for the year ahead.
But she said the team was not gelling as well as planned.
"I thought we weren't going too badly," Sophie said. "But we just seem to lose it in the third quarter and the other teams are really good."
South Warrnambool takes on Colac and District league tonight in round six and Sophie has a positive prediction for the match.
"The only side we've beaten is Warrnambool and District and they came close to Colac," she said. "So we should do pretty well." The young Roosters team also includes Genevieve Lenehan, Hannah Oates, Ruby Wilson, Laura Roberts, Marlie Boyd, Maddi Dalton, Bianca Heaphy, Ebony Krygger, Olivia Krygger, and Grace Paulin.
In other under 17 matches at Warrnambool Stadium, Hamilton faces Hampden league, Colac FNC battles Warrnambool City and Warrnambool plays Warrnambool and District league. In the senior draw, Warrnambool FNC takes on Colac and District league, Warrnambool and District league plays Colac FNC and Koroit FNC faces the Hampden league.
