REBEKAH Moroney had some of Port Fairy's most precious cargo in the car as the learner driver made her way to Hampden League matches this season.
Not only was she responsible for getting herself - the newly-crowned 17 and under best and fairest - to games, she also had to make sure younger sister Sarah - the 15 and under best and fairest - was at the court in time.
It didn't always go to plan.
"I think I got her there late a few times," she laughed.
The Seagulls' sister act was not only shocked with their individual awards last night, they were also surprised their sibling was successful.
Rebekah prevailed in a nailbiting count, where she attracted 25 votes while runner-up Hannah Oates, a South Warrnambool defender, polled 24.
"I was getting real nervous at the end," the winner said.
"Everyone was asking me how I played in certain games and I couldn't remember."
The 17-year-old Seagull, who lives near Hawkesdale, has been a regular player in Port's senior side the past two seasons.
"The first year I felt out of my depth but this season I've felt a bit more comfortable because I knew what to expect," she said.
This year was the first time she was able to play with her younger sister, with the talented duo holding up Port Fairy's defence in the top grade.
Their ability to curb the influence of some of the competition's best shooters attracted plenty of attention from league followers.
"It's a lot easier playing with her because you just sort of know what each other is going to do," she said.
"We played in state league together at the start of the year, which was the first time we played together.
"We really liked it."
Rebekah had five best-on-court performances in the 17 and under competition this season.
She is hoping to continue her form on Sunday, when Port clash with Cobden in the elimination final.
"We've had draw, a win and a loss with them this season," she said.
"It should be a good game.
"I think we've got good players all across the court, especially the centre court."
Rebekah said she planned on staying with the Seagulls.
"Even though we didn't win that many games (in seniors), it was still fun," she said.
