JOSIE Ellerton and Leah Kermeen loved a tussle when they were younger, but not on the netball court.
"We've known each other for years," Ellerton said.
"We were good family friends.
"She was good friends with my sister when we were young, so she used to come out to my place and beat me up," Ellerton laughed.
Following their play fighting, the pair teamed up and played junior netball together for Emmanuel College and Warrnambool City.
The duo will be reunited on the court in the upcoming Hampden league season as Ellerton has been appointed South Warrnambool's junior development coach.
Kermeen is the Roosters' senior coach.
Not only will Ellerton guide the juniors, she will also take to the court for the Roosters' senior side after more than 200 games at Terang and Terang Mortlake.
Since arriving at Terang in 1996, she has only had one season off, due to the birth of her son, Leo, in 2008.
She won the Bloods' senior best and fairest several times and is a life member of the club.
"I've played there for so long," Ellerton said.
"I met my husband there.
"It's been a really difficult decision to leave and it took me a long time to make it.
"The new role at South is an exciting opportunity and it's going to be an exciting challenge for me.
"I'm really looking forward to having Leah as my coaching mentor."
Ellerton coached Terang's senior side for three seasons in the early 2000s.
"The last year I coached at Terang was 2002," she said.
"(Coaching juniors) has always interested me.
"It also fits really well because Leo is my top priority.
"It's convenient because my mother and mother-in-law both live in Warrnambool and I work in Warrnambool."
The Panmure resident, who took out Hampden league's senior best and fairest in 2006, can effectively slot into the mid-court or goals.
"South didn't make finals last year, so I'm looking forward to helping push them up this year," she said.
The 29-year-old and Kermeen have had a preview of what it will be like playing with each other again as they are teammates in the Western Regional State League.
