Danny Carroll is a boy in a hurry.
The Mailors Flat youngster is on top of the world after a whirlwind racing tour to the United States.
The 11-year-old, driving a junior quarter midget, claimed the senior Honda 120cc title at the Dirt Grands Nationals in Rio Linda, California, and finished second in the light 160cc class.
His father Damian said the nationals were considered the world titles for the sport.
"He has opened a lot of eyes and got people talking," he said of his son's performances.
"He certainly impressed them over there."
Competing against older juniors, the four-time Australian champion qualified second fastest for the 120cc 40-lap A main.
With the grid inverted, he started from position four and after dropping to fifth, surged through the field to grab the lead.
Such was his dominance, he lapped up to fifth.
In the 160cc class, he qualified fourth fastest and with the inverted line-up, he started from position two.
He was involved in a tangle at the start and relegated to seventh but fought back to be challenging for the lead with 10 laps to go, narrowly failing on the last lap to get in front.
Damien said it was the second time Danny had been to the US, contesting the same event last year where he had finished 23rd.
"The secret was taking our own cars over this time," he said.
He raced in US-based cars last year but the different chassis meant he wasn't comfortable behind the wheel.
Damien said they flew their cars into Sacremento where they were assembled and used engines supplied by Pennsylvanian builders Ziggy's Motorworks because the power plants had to meet US specifications.
With the cars being shipped back to Australia, Damien said he was unsure when Danny would get behind the wheel, with the domestic season set to rev up in October.
