SPEEDCARS have been d umped from Premier Speedway next season as the club looks to focus on classes that attract fans.

Premier Speedway's 13-event program has been released for next season, dominated by the crowd-pulling sprintcars.

As revealed in The Standard last month, the club will run 11 sprintcar night events, including The Standard Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, Lucas Oils Australian title and three rounds of the Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria series.

General manager David Mills said the club had retained a round of the national super sedan series and included formula 500s, super rods, wingless sprints, junior sedans, street stocks and AMCA nationals.

In total, the club will hold 13 meetings, one more than this season, starting with its traditional club-style day event on November 14.

But he said speedcars were a casualty from the bigger season after they made their first appearance at the Allansford circuit in five years in February.

Mills said last season's speedcar event, which had provided some great racing, had not captured the imagination of fans.

"From a financial point of view, it was less than successful," he said.

"Running the extra SRA rounds, hopefully it will provide some great entertainment and with varying formats, keep them coming back."

He said the club had to ensure events were viable. He said new innovations like staging a half-venue open night (to reduce costs) had been scheduled for March 5 when wingless sprints, AMCA nationals and junior sedans were the feature classes.

Mills said the club had introduced discounted multi-night passes. Fans attending the Classic could buy two-night adult passes for $60 ($30 a night) but entry on the second night would be $35. Three-night passes would be available for the Australian title.
