TWO reigning Australian champions in different classes will headline tomorrow night’s Laang Speedway meeting.
Formula 500 national champ Liam Williams, who has strong links with the south-west, will return to the track he watched his father race at in the first round of a triple crown series.
Club publicity officer Alistair McKean said a field of 27 would use the triple crown opening leg as a shakedown for April’s national title at the venue.
He said national street stocks champion Brad McClure, of Geelong, would headline the 16-car field in the street stocks class.
They will be racing for a $1200 first prize in the feature.
Spectators can expect junior sedans to be on the track the most during the night with A grade youngsters scheduled to contest a gruelling 50-lap encounter.
Super rods and micro sprints will also feature on the program.
McKean said the club was keen to put on a good show with 88 drivers entered.
He said the club had added truckloads of new clay to the track and curators were keen to get it run ahead of April’s formula 500 Australian title meeting on Good Friday and Easter Saturday.
“We are looking for a big crowd, it will be a ripper night,” McKean said.
“It’s rare to get two Australian champions in separate classes racing on the same night.”
