BRETT Milburn's trek from Pearcedale to Mount Gambier was worthwhile as he took out the second round of the SRA series on Saturday night.
Mike Van Bremen was second while Simpson's John Vogels rounded out the podium at Borderline Speedway.
Rough weather delayed the start of the round, which saw the track hooked up.
New South Wales driver Eddie Lumbar qualified highest on points after the heats and opted to start the final from position two, next to Milburn.
It was the latter who utilised's Lumbar's choice, with the Pearcedale driver getting the jump on the start.
Milburn wasn't too far out of Vogels' and Van Bremen's reach but he was able to maintain his lead and record a victory.
"The boys have done a great job all night and all week," the winner said. "We've had a rough start to the season and tore up a bit of gear but I tell you what it makes it all worth it when you can come here and win.
"We might not have had the set-up on the car as well as we wanted for the feature but hey, we got the job done and that's all that matters."
Vogels admitted after the race his crew missed the set-up slightly.
"We were a bit loose," he said. "We didn't think the track would go away like it did.
"It turned out to be a great race and congratulations to Mick and especially Brett for winning it.
"I reckon it was a great race for the crowd in the end."
Van Bremen conceded the round was hard work.
"It was a pretty fast racetrack and obviously lapped traffic weren't going slow either," he said.
"With two laps to go I thought I had one desperate dive left, but in the end Brett would have had to stuff up for me to get past.
"I'm happy with second."
Warrnambool's Jamie Veal finished fourth.
Premier Speedway will host the third round of the series on Saturday night.
Van Bremen (781) is on top of the overall points table, while Vogels is second (760) and Milburn third (721).
