TERANG missed a chance to crack Tuesday pennant’s top four yesterday due to matches being cancelled.
Under the Western District Bowls Division rules, Tuesday pennant games are abandoned on days of total fire ban in the south-west.
The cancellation of round 12 matches was unfortunate for Terang, which was looking to enter the division one top four.
The fifth-placed side had a winnable match against Timboon, while the third and fourth-ranked sides — City Memorial Green and Port Fairy — were scheduled to do battle.
The loser would have potentially dropped out of the top four and been replaced by Terang but, because of yesterday’s total fire ban, the ladder positions stay the same.
With Warrnambool Gold and City Memorial Gold expected to finish first and second respectively, the next three sides vying for the two remaining top-four spots are City Green, Port Fairy and Terang.
Each of the teams has to play either City Gold or Warrnambool Gold in the last two home-and-away rounds, as well as either Warrnambool Blue (sixth) or City Blue (eighth).
Next week marks the penultimate home-and-away round of Tuesday pennant.
